Dr. Lanehart was a featured linguist in the April 2019 issue of LINGUIST List. An excerpt of her featured story is here:
"...I have based my work in Critical Sociolinguistics since the murder of Trayvon Martin, the devastating trial of his murderer, the rise of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the massacre of “The Charleston Nine,” and the murder of my distant maternal relative, Sandra Bland, and too many other Black women and men, girls and boys, across the United States. I focused my vocation on asking questions needing answers and investigating gaps in the literature regarding language use and identity in African American communities because I am part of those communities. Annual University Excellence Awards at UTSA

Dr. Lanehart received two awards at the Annual University Excellence Awards Ceremony on April 18, 2019. First, she received the Richard S. Howe Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award, an award recognizing UTSA tenured, tenure-track and non-tenure-track professors for developing signature learning experiences for undergraduates.
Furthermore, she was one of several to receive the President’s Distinguished Diversity Award—Group, Black Faculty and Staff Association. This award bestows the highest level of recognition to individuals or groups for work that helps the UTSA community think about and practice diversity and inclusion in creative and collaborative ways. |
